Drinking and Driving…

So cool.

I just found a “secret” wireless node at a wonderful pub off High Street. Free access, lovely locale, all for the price of a pint or a dram. Some of you locals will know it, and know about the access point.

So there I am on this lovely Edinburgh afternoon, out in the garden, lounging in the sun, drunk-juice in hand, PowerBook on the table. Down an old close – looming stone tenements all around. The perfect synthesis of technology and history, and a better place than my flat to research, write my thesis, and waste time. Sure.

DO YOU REALIZE THE IMPLICATIONS OF THIS?!

My entire dissertation will be drunk ramblings! I’ll never leave!

That is, until my batteries die…

Me, alone in a High Street pub with a drunk-juice and a PowerBook? With my reputation? Has nobody thought of the consequences?

    FRIENDS OF DARREN, UNITE!!!
I say we all send him fresh batteries, frequently. We draft one of the locals there as our "point man." Ply the fella with pints of his own and the task of keeping the batteries charged, and we're set. The drunken ramblings of our favorite scholar will be ours to read!

I, S Currie, being of sound-ish mind, do hereby volunteer to be the 'Guardian of the Sacred PowerBook Battery'. I promise to sit in Old Town drinking establishments quietly supping long vodka's in order to further the cause of our master, Mr Funkyplaid. I will also instruct my naked virgin underlings to refill his pint glass whenever he snaps his lordly fingers and we shall feed him grapes and ass cheese until his fantabulous dissertation is finished.
Now, back to the ward …

You guys kill me…but we'd better stop here because you're staring to put some serious thoughts in my head!
Naked virgins go *extremely* well with the above-mentioned lovely slices of life. Why hadn't I thought of it?
    🙂

Weee! Wish I had such a place when I wrote my thesis.
What I've been meaning to ask for a while, do you have STASIS meeting protocols available somewhere? I've not been able to attend a single meeting yet, but it'd be nice to know what folks talked about anyway.

Wha?! Sounds good. Where is this secret tipple garden? I don’t need a wireless node but I can always come along and fiddle with my palmtop. 🙂

Man, we really need to make a regular alcoholic/tech geek meeting or something. Of course, no work would ever get done, but it would be fun as all get-out.
