The Scaffold Walk.

This is an exhilaration, and also an invitation.

Pardi de Primi: I’m over my word count by nearly 33%. Some smart formatting and clever kerning might assist with this issue, because I have great difficulty in cutting my written words down. You’ve probably noticed this. Regardless, my completed, edited, and bound dissertation gets submitted this Friday. Given the extensive amounts of prevari- and procrastination I’ve finely honed over these past twelve months, it’s truly a wonder that it’s going to be in on time. Right now, I’m finishing up my third chapter on Jacobite ideology, historiography, and a modern national identity. After a few more words in the conclusion about current projects out at the Culloden battlefield, the damn bitch will be ready.

Coincidence? I left some time open on Thursday and Friday to attend a local conference with Colin Kidd and Murray Pittock, two of the main authors I just happen to be writing about this very moment. There’s something to be said about living right here in the heart of it all…

Pardi de Secondi: On this Friday, just after 3:30 pm, I’m having a fucking drink to celebrate the submission of my dissertation. I won’t need my brain cells anymore, and I encourage you to help chase them away if you’ve got a moment. I’ll be at the Brass Monkey from that point onward, and until they throw me out. This is not formal, nor required. Just come along to say Hi and toss a few back with me if you’re feeling up to it. It will be the four-week mark from when I leave this fine city, and the debauchery officially starts HERE:

Friday, 10 September
15:30
The Brass Monkey, Drummond St.

“Don’t talk to me of Jacobitism, for I’ll no longer give a shit.” 🙂

*in anticipation, stumbles into lampposts, mailboxes, and random, monumental effigies of glowering, Georgian gentry*

Thanks! I've had to medicate myself to stay in front of the computer, but it was worth it.
You'd be surprised how well whisky helps one's understanding of historical phenomena. I'd highly recommend it.

I sincerely doubt that sentiment, my friend. I've seen your library, and how lovingly they were scattered across your floor. If you didn't care, they'd be much more dog-eared and written in.

    Good point.
But 'lovingly scattered across the floor'?
I'll remember that next time I'm 'lovingly splayed 'afore the toilet'.

oKAY. Three-thirty pm your time means just about breakfast time here. Jaffar and I will raise a glass to you, then shuffle off to work a wee bit loopier.
You know, for the sake of propriety (and our livers), you really could've moved somewhere like Bora Bora.
Aside from all that: Congratulations! You've done it!

Um…you're a scholar? You've acquired the habit of (eek!) intellectual activity? You've planned and worked for this for years? **Enjoy**, y'idjit!! 🙂
I'll think of you tomorrow and maybe drink a Pepsi in your honor. Sorry! (No Athollbrose handy…I know, I know, terrible housekeeping..)
