The Last Romance.

You know I’ve felt like this before,
I know you have felt it too
but maybe I don’t want to dance
’cause I’ve not had as much as you.

Our lives did not begin
the very moment that we met;
I don’t want to hold your hand –
there is so much that I’ll forget

You’re no angel from above;
you’re the last girl I will love.

And maybe I’m not very vocal
’cause I’ve used the words before,
and the more they were repeated
the more they were ignored.

But the ears my whispers fell on,
they weren’t deaf, they were bang on
’cause they knew I didn’t mean it,
I just wanted to hang on.

But the world has changed, and how!
And I know I mean it…
So let’s toast the last romance –
but just don’t ask me to dance.

Don’t Ask Me to Dance (Arab Strap)

I know what goldenrod is, but what's a 4-H stone?

You know, the brilliance of Sufjan's new album is completely lost on me. I enjoyed his older stuff a bit, but this song, in particular, I find very difficult to digest. I feel like I'm missing something with him, because everyone else thinks it's marvelous.

I think Vito's Ordination Song is probably better than anything on Illinoise, but I'm crazy about this album. He's a very clever lyricist.

As you're doing lyrics – this one would covert Saladin to Christianity:
    Vito's Ordination Song
    I always knew you
    in your mothers arms
    I have called your name
    I have an idea
    placed in your mind
    to be a better man
I've made a crown for you
    put it in your room
and when the bride groom comes
    there will be noise
    there will be glad
    and a perfect bed
and when you write a poem
    I know the words
    I know the sounds
    before you write it down
    When you wear your clothes
    I wear them too
    I wear your shoes
    and your jacket too
    I always knew you
    in your mothers arms
    I have called you son
    I've made amends
    between father and son
    or if you havent one
    rest in my arms
    sleep in my bed
    there is a design
to what I did and said

no one is ever really the 'last' one.
I love that you have been posting the
mp3s with the lyrics…good way to start

I liked that. Cymbals seemed to prominent (too much tst-tst-tst-tst going on) but that could just be my crappy speakers.
