Road Trip!

As the weeks blaze by, we’ve made a last-minute move to burn up yet one more in the City of Sin. Ostensibly a work-related venture, a couple of the boys from the shop and I will be hopping in the car tomorrow and making a beeline to Las Vegas and GAMA GTS, the Game Manufacturer’s Association trade show. It’s basically the E3 of the non-electronic games world. Once there, we will be wooed by designers, companies, and distributors, all the while drinking in and drinking to the greater good of the industry.

This is my first trip to Vegas. We know the Luxor is involved, where I hope to be fanned with palm fronds by scantily-clad Egyptian servants. Probably, I’ll get my toes chewed on by glassy, chitinous scarabs while I sleep. We also know that at least four parties are involved, one for each night we’re there, each held by a different company trying to convince us that they’re the coolest and the most inventive guys in the industry. Oh, we’ll enjoy their offerings, palm fronds or no. We’ll take their swag. We’ll use their women – okay, scratch that one. But the real task remains: how in God’s Green Earth will we find a way to infiltrate the vast, luxurious bounty of debauchery that Vegas offers forth while simultaneously trying to pretend that we’re actually working? How much glad-handing can a man take in one week? How many complimentary gin-and-tonics can Darren swill?

By the time we return on Thursday evening, the gang back at the store will just be settling into our weekly board game gathering, which is lately drawing over a dozen people on a regular basis. We’ll roll up, Murano stuffed with boxes of stuff that the public hasn’t seen yet. Thousands of little wooden pieces, dice of all varieties, release schedules for the next twelve months. This homecoming will be cheered by the masses; they will erect a column in the entry hall. This, my life, is so incredibly sad.

Catch up with you late in the week, though we’ll have our laptops with us and the entire city is basically Wi-Fied. The bet is on: how many hookers can we get to buy us drinks, and just what do we have to do for it? Will Andre bob for g-strings in the fountain of the Bellagio? Were they serious about the WizKids Hawaiian luau, stuck pig and all? Wish us luck; life is just a game.

Everyone always laughs at me when I say this, but the Sicilian cheese pizza at the pizza place (not the restaurant) in New York New York is delicious.
Have fun! I never get bored of Vegas.

Didn't see him, but did talk to Collin from Lone Wolf (Army Builder) who is from Edinburgh – now in San Jose. He wouldn't accept our sincere threats to disembowel him if he didn't develop a version for OS X. The bastard.

I regret that I never got a chance to try the pizza there, though your suggestion was certainly on my mind through the week. I think I was distracted by all the porn leaflets.

    HA!
Oh, she's a dirty gal, to be sure. I've got stories for you, though probably none that you haven't already heard – or experienced!

    Have fun storming the castle
I also stayed at the Luxor on my first sojourn to Vegas. I was going to remninisce about subsequent trips, but what happens in Vega…
The Hard Rock Cafe always seems to be fun. Not for the food, or the music though.

Oh, you just think so. Actually, it's all a clever ploy to get you to like me more.
