Sick?” I would hear myself yelling to the late-night science television. It was the only thing worth watching after visiting hours were done. “Why haven’t we fixed sick yet? You scientists there – put down those starfish and help us. I hereby demand that all people who are good at math make the world free of illness. The rest of us will write you epic poems and staple them together into a booklet.”

That's why I feel much better about my current job than my previous music industry jobs. At least I'm a cog in a big machine developing stent polymer coatings, biogradable tissue scaffolds, and the latest drug delivery devices.
There is research being done, don't lose heart.

Working in the lab, and being exposed to such things as a presentation by this company's R&D guy, makes me feel more useful than just unloading boxes at my FedEx job. A couple of students I went to school with worked with shape memory alloys for use in stents. I wish I'd had a chance to learn more about polymers during my studies.

And when you write your poem, don't just send in a haiku. Curing all illness deserves at least a sonnet.

I was thinking sestina. But that would only increase the amount of sickness in the world.
