Mixed Media.

Had a blast with Ryan and Evan last Tuesday as the MacWorld Keynote feed was trickled to us via the excellent MacRumors site. We had a mini mid-morning blather via the wonders of iChat, snippy comments and half-masted witticisms galore as we went about our normal workday or downtime. A sort of Dynamophone Snarkfest, if you will. By the end of it, we had an ex-Apple employee in on the fun, everyone giving their instant feedback as the MacFreaks of the world looked on. In a way, iChat kept me sane while I was living abroad. I used to love watching my friends back home in the U.S. wink on as they woke up and logged on. I used to chart the time zones as my East Coast chums started up their computers, then Central, finally Left Coasters. At the end of the day, they’d flicker out the same way. Eight hours of difference was great for that. It was just comforting to have their names hovering there, even if nothing was said, or no chats were exchanged. Just knowing they were there, going about their tasks, was enough. Evan used to call it The Lifeline. And now it’s a similar thing the other way around, with me looking over to the U.K. and Europe. Communication now is such an amazing thing, and for as much as I’m critical of technology for giving the most despicable of people an even voice, the Internet really does stimulate and propagate a Global Community.

Later in the year, for WWDC, I’m going to organize a group Keynote SnarkChat, and make sure to get dougygyro, thistlelurid, and hermiston in on the fun. Anyone else care to join?

As Dynamophone and Ixmae grow, the projects within get more fun. With four finished releases and some very exciting albums due in the coming months, we’re settling into a groove and enjoying the time that’s put into it all. I’ve now been relegated (or elevated) to the status of Spiteful Guy on the Couch due to recent late night feedback sessions, but my normal duties also continue. Turns out, in other news, we’re going bonkers in Japan. But really, doesn’t everybody?

My dearests Ryan & Rebecca just celebrated their ten-year wedding anniversary, and in addition to a raucous night filled with oceans of wine and incredibly titillating karaoke, they saw fit to provide their guests with a special treat: hand-made chocolates and a couple of delightful tracks, specially recorded for this occasion. With permission, I’ve linked to one of them here, R/R Coseboom‘s gorgeous rendition of The Cure’s Untitled.

While we’re on the subject of covers, I just had to post Susanna and the Magical Orchestra‘s haunting version of Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart. (Hey, no_mans_land and purpledonna, there’s a great DM cover on that album, too.)

You should already be calling in sick for WWDC. Then, you should be shopping.
    🙂
